Fixing the Base Block in the Support Arm

It is now necessary to make a properly planar base for mounting the flat upon. The easiest way to do this is to take one of the non-machined blocks (i.e. one which has not been polished to an optical standard, and thus is still rough) and to glue it to the L-shaped support member with epoxy adhesive. The first picture shows the support member, in which a suitable depression has been milled, and the block which will be fixed in this depression.

The two epoxy components have been loaded into the depression:

Now the epoxy has been mixed:

The block has now been squished into the epoxy. If you use good quality epoxy, and ensure that the surfaces start off clean, the block will be very securely fixed.
